Macbeth: Fooled or Fiend?

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

This lecture, aimed at second level students studying Macbeth, considered what motivates Macbeth to murder and the influence of the Weird Sisters on his actions. Dr Kealy considered how Shakespeare leaves space in the iambic pentameter for shrieks of terror as Macbeth experiences psychological melt-down consumed by his vaulting ambition and tormented by his guilt and obsession. Dr Kealy, joint winner of the Waterford Institute of Technology Teaching and Learning Excellence Award, brought her love of literature and vivid memories of her own experience of state exams to support and encourage those reading Shakespeare for exams and/or pleasure.
