One Building Many Voices

Press/Media

Description

'One Building Many Voices' is a radio documentary that was inspired by the many women that WIT lecturers Dr Katherine Cagney and Ms. Anne Wayne met returning to the College Street Campus (St. Dominic's in particular) over the years, retracing their steps and trying to piece together memories and trying to find information about their childhood.

The College Street Campus was once the site of the Waterford Magdalene Laundry.

“We wanted to focus on the voices that have come through the building and the changed nature of the building now that it is part of WIT.  Several of the women now in their 70s and 80s gave interviews for the programme but they felt so stigmatised by their experiences that they asked for actors to speak their words,” explained Dr Katherine Cagney.

The documentary was made with support from the Sound and Vision scheme in the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
