The Automotive Control Group at South East Technological University has been researching and teaching automotive software systems for over twenty years. Its graduates have worked with the major OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in the automotive industry, in Ireland, Europe and China, and have developed software for many current series production vehicles. Practical education in industry-standard technologies and tools is also provided to undergraduates on the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Automotive & Automation Systems) programme, covering topics such as AUTOSAR software development, vehicle networking, automotive diagnostic protocols, ADAS, Car2x and Model-Based Development. The group is working with a number of European universities on a project funded by the City of Vienna, Austria to implement an eLearning platform that provides accredited online education in embedded systems technologies. In 2021 the group established the first Irish branch of the Automotive Security Research Group (ASRG) to raise awareness of cybersecurity threats in automotive applications and to provide a forum for Irish automotive companies to exchange know how on this topic. A number of successful events have been organised to date with leading international cybersecurity practitioners and the group currently has over 350 members. The group has a state-of-the-art Automotive Systems Laboratory, sponsored by Vector and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), with the latest vehicle systems and networks for students to use. Since 2022 SETU automotive students have studied for the Vector Certified Embedded Associate (CEA) certification as part of their undergraduate programme.
