Biography

Dr Aleksandar Kostić is an award-winning architect, educator, and researcher. Previously the Head of the Department of Architecture at SETU, he now leads the Architectural Research Group (aRCH). He brings extensive experience in architectural design, having delivered large-scale and complex projects across Ireland and Europe in last two decades. His architectural expertise spans high-complexity building types, including university research facilities, libraries, theatres, and laboratories, with his previous work nominated for the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award – an EU Award for Architecture.

Aleksandar holds a doctorate from University College Dublin (UCD) in the field of Architectural Design Theory. He combines his practical and theoretical expertise to advance architectural design thinking and bring about alternative methods for solving complex problems. He presents and publishes widely across Europe, the United States, and China on this topic.

Over the last decade, Aleksandar created and implemented an innovative educational method in the final year of the Architectural Design Studio known as “design charette,” which has become an internationally distinctive feature of the architecture programme at SETU.

Aleksandar is a member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI), the Serbian Chamber of Engineers (SCE), the steering committee of the All-Ireland Architecture Research Group (AIARG), the SABRE Research Centre (SETU), the Centre for Platonic Tradition, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), and the International Society for the Philosophy of Architecture (ISPA).
