Biography

Dr. Kehoe is an exercise physiolgist and lecturer in the Department of Sport & Exercise Science at SETU.  She received a BSc. in Sport Science and Health from Dublin City University (DCU) in 2009. In 2014, she received a PhD in the area of Clinical Exercise Physiology from DCU. Her PhD investigated the effects of inactivity and exercise on vascular health and functional capacity in individuals with peripheral arterial disease.  She was employed as a postdoctoral researcher on a project commissioned by the Health Service Executive to develop a National Exercise Referral Framework.  She then took up the role of ExWell Research Manager.  ExWell is a community-based exercise rehabilitation programme for chronic disease and the Research Manager position was a new role created to develop a research programme within ExWell. In this role, Dr. Kehoe developed and managed a vibrant multi-disciplinary research team and programme of research. In 2018, she obtained certification in Professional Skills for Research Leaders from the Institute of Leadership & Management and DCU. Dr. Kehoe began her lecturing position in SETU in 2019.

Research Interests

Dr. Kehoe's research area of interest is the role of exercise in the prevention and treatment of age-related chronic conditions, which includes a diverse range of conditions. Her research to date has involved individuals with cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, cancer and frailty and has involved a multi-disciplinary approach to the design, implementation and evaluation of physical activity and exercise interventions in those cohorts. There has been a particular focus on delivery models of exercise rehabilitation, namely community-based and home-based exercise programmes.
Dr. Kehoe has co-supervised three PhD students to completion and currently co-supervises seven PhD students, four of which are based in DCU and three in SETU.  Her research activities in SETU include collaborations with clinical partners in University Hospital Waterford and University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre.
