Personal profile

Biography

I was awarded my doctorate in Old English and Celtic Studies from UCC in 2007. My studies provided insights into oral literacy, particularly how it has shaped and informed the Western literacy tradition.

With 23 years of experience in adult education, I have focused on adult literacy work for 14 years. As an ETB adult educator, I designed and delivered various ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), literacy, and family literacy courses. I also contributed to the Initial Literacy Tutor Training course and worked as an educator on the Refugee Resettlement Programme.

In 2020, I joined the Distance Learning team at the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) and, later that year, was appointed as the Family Literacy Project Worker on NALA’s Marking Progress project. This project aims to support participating ETBs in implementing the guidelines and recommendations outlined in the report "Family Literacy Practices in ETBs: Guidelines, Case Studies, and Recommendations." I am currently a member of NALA's board of directors and serve as chairperson for their Education, Training, and Assessment subcommittee.

As a former student of WIT, I was delighted to join the Literacy Development Centre team in August 2021.
