Frances is currently Research Head of Division for the Mobile Ecosystem and Pervasive Sensing (MEPS) Research division in Walton Institute, SETU. Since joining SETU over 20 years ago, Frances has successfully taken on multiple roles of importance ranging from Test engineer, Business development to technical lead before taking on her current role of Head of Division for a research Unit in Walton institute. Over the years Frances has gained knowledge in various technical research areas such as Pervasiveness sensing, Smart Transport, Healthcare innovation and informatics, experimental facilities and cybersecurity/privacy and trust. She has engaged with multiple companies driving digital innovation strategies and digital knowledge transfer. Frances has also successfully led large EU funded cluster and collaboration research projects on behalf of the European Commission and has been successful in numerous funding applications at both an EU and national level in Ireland.  In her current role as Head of division Frances manages and guides a large group of researchers (PHD and postdocs) and technical leads, software developers and lab mangers. Core to her activities here include Industry engagement, Digital innovation, Strategic digital and research planning, collaboration and investigation of new emerging technologies.  Her division have expertise across multiple areas such as healthcare etextiles, intelligent fabric spaces, Artificial intelligence, Natural language processing, 5G/6G, Smart intelligent transport and virtual and augmented reality.
