Biography

Dr Gallagher is a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast where he obtained a BSc in Pure and Applied Physics in 1984. He then did his doctorate at the University of Leeds in the area of Polymer Physics. His thesis was titled "Mechanical Properties and Morphology of Oriented Polymer Blends". On completing his thesis, Gabriel worked for two years as a Chemical Physicist at BP Research Research Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames. In 1990, he returned to Ireland to take up a position as a Lecturer in Physics at Cork RTC before moving to Waterford RTC (now SETU, Waterford) in 1991. Since arriving in SETU he has taught on a wide range of courses and has been course leader on both the HC Glass Technology and the HC in Multimedia.

He is currently a member of the Environmental Radiation Research Group at SETU with a particular interest in minimum detectable activity (MDA).
