Biography

Dr. Joey O Brien is a Lecturer in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences. His main fields of expertise are Strength and Conditioning and Sport Science.

He has accumulated almost a decade of experience in the domains of sports, health, and physical activity. Throughout this time, he has held positions in the fields of general population fitness and physical activity, high-performance sports, student sports, oncology, cardiac rehabilitation through exercise, and more recently, academia.

Joey recently completed a PhD in hamstring strength training and injury risk reduction from SETU Carlow, which was a 5-year prospective study that involved several independent research studies. Joey has presented some of these findings at various conferences, such as the UKSCA Conference and the UPMC Sports Medicine Roadshow.
