Biography

Dr. John Organ is currently a Lecturer in Business Information Systems with the Department of Accountancy and Economics, School of Business at South East Technological University. Previously, he was a Doctoral Researcher in the Centre for Information Systems and Techno-culture (INSYTE) at South East Technological University.

He earned his PhD in South East Technological University in 2019 under the supervision of INSYTE’s Dr. Larry Stapleton, Examiners: Prof. Dietrich Brandt - RWTH Aachen University and Dr. Jim Lawlor - Waterford Institute of Technology. The title of his thesis was ‘Systemic Risk in Information Systems through a Socio-Technical Lens: A case study of banking failure in Ireland’. The aim of the research was to broaden the basic of risk assumptions, rationality and knowledge reframing risk as a socio-technical issue using the Irish banking crisis as a case study. The socio-technical framework developed synthesises important dimensions which can better inform systemic risk management and thinking from the perspective of systems engineering. He also received a BSc (Hons) in Commercial Software Development and a MSc in Computing (Information Systems Processes) both from South East Technological University.

Research Activities:

I am involved in an Erasmus + (DIFUCH) project and am working with colleagues in IPB Portugal and Hanze, Netherlands. The project is running from 2022 - 2024.

In 2020-2021 I worked on a New Foundations Scheme – Irish Research Council (IRC) Funded Project

  • Project Title: Using Interactive Mapping to explore the architecture of containment in Waterford’s Magdalene Laundry.
