Marie is a lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at SETU. She is a registered psychiatric nurse, registered nurse prescriber and a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. Marie has two decades experience in mental health services, the last ten years at specialist level and remains in CBT practice. Her most recent HSE mental health service role was in the development of an integrated CBT service in a rural adult mental health service  to encourage increased access to evidence-based interventions in secondary care - reducing polypharmacy and rationalisation of medication through endorsing the stepped care approach in the treatment of common mental health difficulties in the community. Her primary research area is in CBT for suicidal ideation (CBT-Suicide Prevention) through the promotion of  standardisation of collaborative risk assessment/ planning and imagery interventions to stabilise risk. This is the focus of Marie's Phd study. 

Marie is also a researcher, as part of an international team. This Erasmus+ funded project SSTeMM https://sstemm.eu/ examines student nurse and mentor's stress in the clinical area, developing interventions and resources underpinned by the principles of CBT. 

She is involved in the Medicines Mgt Programme  updating national guidance on BZRA's in Anxiety and Insomnia Best Practice, updating CBT resources as part of its stepped care iniative for GPs, prescribers and pharmacists.
