Biography

Mary Doyle-Kent has a proven track record both in Industry and in academia.

Working for 10 years as a New Products Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer and Manager in Ireland and abroad, she has extensive experience in the automotive, medical device and toy industries. Her areas of interest in research and lecturing over a 20 year period in SETU and TUD range from Industry 4.0 and 5.0, human centered automation in engineering, inclusion, diversity and equality, engineering ethics and environmental design. 

Maryis a PI of a transdisciplinary SETU INSYTE research group where she head up the Cost Oriented Automation Research Unit.

In 2021 Mary graduated with a Technical Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University in Vienna Austria (TUWien) and her reseach thesis was in titled "Collaboative Robotics and Industry 5.0."

In 2019 Mary became the Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Working in the International Federation of Automaic Control's (IFAC) Technical Committee 9.5 and in 2020 she became Chair of IFACs exectutive D&I Committee which is a global position. In addition Mary is a member of the Athena Swan self-assessment team representing the School of Engineering in SETU Waterford, and is an active member of the Engineers Ireland Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

With over 12 years of MSc thesis supervision, Mary has supervised the following:

  • An investigation into the role of the building structure on the energy use & CO2 emissions over the life-cycle of a medium rise residential building
