Md Kamruzzaman is a postgraduate researcher at the Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC) of SETU, working on a project funded by SSPC-The SFI Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals. The project is focused on the formulation of high drug loading co-amorphous drug systems to improve the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs. Amorphous materials are those where the molecules have not arranged themselves into a particular crystal structure, making it easier for them to break free from neighbouring molecules and dissolve in water. Amorphous materials are not very stable however, so this research will look to stabilise the drug using small molecule co-formers until they reach the patient. Kamruzzaman holds a MSc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree, as well as professional experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and university teaching experience.
