Dr Patricia Hunt is a lecturer in General Nursing at the Department of Nursing and Healthcare. Patricia's clinical background is in cancer and pallaitive care, and she has held several posts at a senior nurse level internationally. Patricia lectures on several nursing and healthcare programmes.
Patricia’s research interests are in cancer and palliative care, where her PhD research examined professional quality of life, empathy and emotional intelligence of the cancer workforce, and she has published in this area. Her current research includes exploring the physical health needs of people with high-grade brain tumours, and the evaluation of a dance exercise programme for young women with breast cancer. Patricia currently supervises one PhD student.
Patricia works closely with clinical cancer nurses nationally. She sits as Secretary and Academic Representative on the National Executive Committee of the Irish Association for Nurses in Oncology (IANO). She is a key member in the planning of the strategic direction of the organisation and in planning and organisation of the IANO annual conference for cancer nurses. She is also a member of the South-East IANO Network.
Patricia has published chapters in books, peer reviewed journal articles, and presented at conferences. She represented the Royal College of Nursing on the first National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline Development Group for Lung Cancer, a two-year project, which was published in 2005.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
