Biography
Robert (Rob) O’Connor is an academic in the Dept. of Computing & Mathematics at SETU (Ireland) and is the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (SE600). Robert is also a graduate of an older version course, having obtained a BSc. (Hons) in Applied Computing in 1999. He then worked as a programmer for a number of organisations before returning to Waterford as a postgraduate student in 2002. He successfully completed an MSc by Research with the TSSG research centre in 2004 and took up a full-time lecturing position with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) in 2006. Since then, he has lectured at both undergraduate and postgraduate level on topics such as programming, digital media and computer science. In 2022, WIT was retitled South East Technological University (SETU)
Since 2018, Robert has produced and hosted The Machine, a podcast from SETU in which technical topics are discussed at a level suitable for novices. He also presents 9plus, a podcast that explores research being carried out at SETU. This is a trans-disciplinary podcast. He also produces and assists on other academic podcasts at SETU and elsewhere.
Robert’s specialist areas of interest include software development, audio/visual media and production.
