Biography

Dr. Ronán McCann completed his honours degree in Applied Physics in 2012 and graduated with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2018 for his thesis examining laser fabrication of functional microfluidic platforms. He has experience in a wide range of fields including plasma science, vacuum technology, laser systems and material science and metrology.

In 2022, he was appointed as Assistant Lecturer of Physics in the Department of Science. His research areas inclued laser-material interaction and nanoparticle production via Laser Ablation Synthesis in Solution (LASiS), and metal additive manufacturing including process monitoring tools and closed-loop system control.
