Biography

I am working as a Lecturer/Associate Professor B in Additive Manufacturing(AM) of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at SETU-Waterford. Ireland. I received my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Huddersfield. U.K, Masters from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). I have 15 years of interdisciplinary Research and Professional experience in Advanced Manufacturing, Materials Science and Engineering post my first degree (level 8: Bachelor of Engineering honours in Mechanical Engineering) working as a Research Assistant/Fellow, Lecturer/Tutor, Manager and Engineer in the Industry, University Research Institutes, and at various Technology gateway Catapult centres in five countries (Ireland, U.K, Canada, New Zealand and India). I have first-hand experience bringing and managing various research funds. Currently serving as a coordinator, and program leader within Engineering departmental committees.
My main motivations for choosing an academic profession are the opportunities to engage in high-quality research, collaborate on innovative educational initiatives, and teach and work closely with students of all age groups, colleagues, research scholars and various research organisations across different Industrial sectors. I develop and deliver first-of-its-kind (in Ireland) Masters and B.Sc courses, and a 10-credit certificate in AM. Currently supervising 3-M.Sc and 2-B.Sc student projects, successfully supervised 4-Masters, 9-B.Sc , and 3 Erasmus+ student projects; all related to AM.  I have been working on various advanced manufacturing techniques like Machining, Friction welding, Friction stir welding and AM (Laser powder bed fusion, Electron beam melting, Direct energy deposition, Microwave sintering, Selective laser sintering, Poly-jetting, Multi-jetting, Fusion deposition modelling). I am an expert in investigating the microstructure, and surface metrology, studying process-structure-property interrelationships of similar and dissimilar metals, metal alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites. I am also experienced in the design of experiments (DOE), and process optimisation by various statistical tools like analysis of variance (ANOVA), Chi-square tests, Taguchi and RSM methods. My recent research focuses on classifying inevitable metallurgical defects/anomalies of AM surfaces by ANN (convolutional neural networks) and process optimisation based on advanced ML tools. Overall, I have completed more than 40 projects within my area of research.
I have published 14 journal articles along with 3 Conference proceedings and a couple of Posters.
