Performance Characteristics of Olympic Combat Sports

The aim of this project is to examine the kinetic performance characteristics of a Olympic striking-based combat sports. The programme of research will involve a mixed-method approach including semi-structured interviews and measures of punch performance in male and female combatants. The kinetics of punch force will be assessed using force plates and mouth guard accelerometers.

The findings from this innovative project will provide evidence-based guidance for coaches and athletes about the kinetic characteristics of punching and will inform decision-making and best practice within Olympic Combat Sports.
