How the Digital Culture of Financial Organisations Impacts National/International Stability

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Due to the dramatic changes occurring in recent years relating to national/international stability, with all-pervasive global uncertainty prevailing, this paper aims to build on earlier research on system effects/control system failures, with an emphasis on how such effects/systems are influenced by the digital culture (DC) and risk assessment perspectives of software test engineers (STEs) in an Irish financial institution. The research design includes a combination of insider research, auto-ethnography, and reflexive research practices relating to the analysis of rich interview/ethnographic data. The findings include the profoundly agile DC of STEs, whilst also adopting a risk management perspective concerned both with the software build, and how it's used from an end-user perspective, assessing the risk of software failure accordingly. The contribution of the paper therefore is to outline how the agile DC / risk management perspectives of STEs ultimately influences the testing team's capacity to maintain system stability throughout the complex digital ecosystem of a leading Irish financial institution.
