Abstract

In this essay, the diverse interfaces between spirituality and education are explored. In the overview, we note the ancient connection between spirituality and education which dates back to the Athenian schools of philosophy, arising from the fact that philosophy was a spiritual practice in some of these schools. We then discuss how the personal arts of integrity, spiritual intelligence, and presence continue to form the basis of teaching with soul today. This discussion leads to a practical example of a trial study undertaken to introduce contemplative practice to teachers for resourcing their teaching practice. Finally, there are some recommendations for taking forward the points of discussion in this essay.
