Abstract
Sustainability requires organizations not only consider the monetary impact in their decision architecture but also the environmental and social impact. The purpose of this section is to detail the functioning of modern day supply chains/networks and will introduce the readership to the fact that sustainability requires a multi-layered conformance from all stakeholders involved for it to be truly successful. While there is no 'one solution fits all' in terms of sustainable global supply networks some of the more generic requirements and implementation architectures required to develop sustainable Global Food Supply Networks are dealt with herein. A case for the use of RFID and Biometric technologies in combination with ICT systems and their collective role in the development of Sustainable Global Food Supply Networks will be presented.
