Abstract

This paper summarises the main findings of a study which investigated the sports involvement of a large sample of second-level school students in Waterford City (n = 3,315). This study was carried out on the total second level school population in the City aged between 12 and 18 years. The study also examined several other areas of leisure and lifestyle patterns amongst adolescents. Results showed a widespread interest in sport among these adolescents, although gender differences were notable across the sample, and the availability of facilities had a marked impact on participation rates in particular sports.
